Car Insurance Audi (Car Insurance). Question about parking tickets?Question about parking tickets? On Tuesday I unfortunately got my first parking ticket. As I was about to pay my ticket online, I saw that I have two citations (both $55), but I know that I've never gotten a ticket prior to Tuesday. What I'm thinking is, maybe I had gotten a parking ticket before and someone just decided to be an a$$hole and throw my ticket away so I wouldn't know about it. Is there a way to talk to someone about this? Who would I contact? Oh, I live in San Francisco btw. If it matters. how long have you owned the car? it could have been in the process then, anyone borrow your car ? its hard to say, should be some numbers to call check it out and find out whats toe scoup.nowadays they tie up the registration, send it to collections suspend the drivers license, its unreal CAll the place which issues the tickets and ask when and where the first was issued. IF it was before you owned the vehicle send in a photocopy of the vehicle ownership details so they can chase the correct person. It may be that someone took the ticket. IN the UK they tend to now photograph the vehicle so if you explain you knew nothing about it they may be helpful in giving you the details. Auto parts : Spray Gun Acura 1995 . What should I do with my interior door panels? What should I do with my interior door panels? Hi, I have a 2001 Honda Civic DX Coupe (2 door) and I was hoping to get advice here on what to do with my interior door panels because the cloth came off and it's difficult to place it back. Here are some images of my problem: Driver Side http://img861.imageshack.us/img861/2057/driverside1.jpg Passenger Side http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/1130/passengerside1g.jpg I went to Honda Parts Dealer and asked them if they have this cloth because both sides are worn out already but instead they offered me to replace the entire door panel for $250 each and $500 for both sides but I don't have that kind of money for something like this so I took off without looking back and escaped that place before it's too late. I really don't know what I should do with this and I would really appreciate any help. I would prefer to just rip the cloth off and get rid of it but I don't know how to cover up that glue stain. The only thing I can think of is painting it but I don't even know what type or what color. My options are rather limited as well since I only have a spraygun but no air compressor and I don't know if spray cans is an option. I only have a budget of $100 or less to fix this. When in park or neutral with the engine running everything seems fine. however once shifted into drive or reverse there is a vibrating that only occurs at a lower rpm. once I begin to start cruising the vibrations disappear and come back when I reach a stop light or sign, due to lower RPM's I suspect the engine mount/bolts the culprit. I'm interested in turning my Geo Tracker into a beastly rock-crawling dethmobile, so to speak. Currently, it's all stock save the paint job...which is actually black primer lol. How much would it cost (an estimate) to add: the best suspension lift, best rock crawling tires (bigger the better), body modifications to fit said tires, roll cage, a V-8 installed (or best that can fit), convert into 4-wheel drive, brush guard, flood lights, etc. just everything to make it a true off-roading champ! Audi . How do I Protect a GT 500 Dash Plaque? In 1965, one year after the initial release of the Ford Mustang, the company requested that retired racer and current automotive designer Carroll Shelby perform an overhaul on the vehicle. Shelby Mustangs had a four-speed transmission with aluminum intakes for increased horsepower and a spare tire where the backseat was previously located. Only 2,000 Shelby GT 500 vehicles were produced between 1965 and 1970. Current vehicle owners can purchase a dashboard plaque signed by Mr. Shelby. Coating the plaque with ultraviolet-resistant clear paint is the most effective method of plaque protection. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Ultraviolet-resistant clear spray paint Newspaper or drop-cloth Painter's tape Well-ventilated area Gloves Loose-fitting clothes Step by Step : 1 Purchase ultraviolet-resistant, clear spray paint for easy application. The paint is available at hardware and art supply stores. An 11 oz. can costs between $4 and $8, depending on the brand. 2 Prepare your work area. Wear loose-fitting clothes and use newspaper or a drop-cloth secured with painter's tape to protect the work surface. Work in an outdoor location, out of direct sunlight. If this is not possible, open all windows in your work location for sufficient ventilation. Make sure the dash plaque is dry and free of debris. 3 Remove the plaque from the packaging and place it in the center of your work area. 4 Test the spray paint. Vigorously shake the can. Spray a small amount on a piece of scrap material to verify paint consistency. Allow yourself to become comfortable with the medium. 5 Apply paint to the dash plaque using even, steady stokes moving from side to side. Begin spraying slightly off the plague and release the button at the end of each pass. Allow each stroke to overlap by 1/3 of an inch. Wait for the first coat to dry. After 10 minutes, the paint should be dry to the touch. 6 Spray the plaque additional times using even stokes. Multiple coats are required to prevent signature fading and plaque discoloration. The number of coats is based on personal preference. Allow the plaque to dry for about two hours before attempting to mount it in the vehicle. 7 Follow enclosed directions to securely mount the plaque inside the vehicle. Tips & Warnings Allow six weeks for delivery of laser-etched signature plaques and five months for original signature plaques. ResourcesThe Official Carroll Shelby Website: History
Audi . How to Restore a 1972 Chevelle1972 marked the final year for the second generation body style for Chevrolet's Chevelle. As America's favorite mid-sized car during the seventies, the basic '72 Chevelle came equipped with a powerful V8 engine with hydraulic valve lifters and a displacement of 402 cubic inches. The base horsepower was 350 at 5200 rpm with a torque of 415 at 3400. Restoring a Chevelle can be a challenging project, but with patience anyone can successfully restore this vehicle. Difficulty:Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Jack Jack Stands Grease Large tarp Labeled storage containers Rubber mallet (optional) Ratchet Socket set Tire iron Power sander Enclosed work area Chevrolet Replacement parts Electrical outlets Broad range of automotive tools Chevrolet re-upholstery kit Air compressor MIG welder Welding mask and gloves Primer & exterior paint Engine hoist Step by Step : 1 Read handbooks and magazines concentrating on restoring classic Chevrolet automobiles, especially those concentrating on the 1972 Chevelle. Search for classic Chevrolet enthusiast meet ups to find other interested in this particular restoration process, as they might be able to help you. Acquiring multitudes of information and advice will make this project easier to successfully accomplish. 2 Create a work space that can accommodate a disassembled Chevelle, as well as equipment, storage containers, and additional lighting. Keep this spacious environment organized to prevent losing any parts or accessories. 3 Secure a tarp to the floor in an area of the room, then place parts and components upon it during restoration. Maintain a clean and organized work space, and set up labeled containers for storing any small pieces. 4 Disassemble the Chevelle's exterior. Remove the bumpers, front grill, doors, hood and trunk lid. Disconnect and remove the headlights and taillights. Lift the Chevelle with a jack, then secure with multiple jack stands. Remove the wheels. If there is excessive rust, use grease and a rubber mallet to help remove them. 5 Unbolt the axles from the frame, then remove them. Disconnect the engine, transmission and other components within the engine well. Use a hoist to remove the engine and transmission from the Chevelle, placing all parts onto your tarp. Store small pieces, such as nuts and bolts, within your labeled containers. 6 Disassemble your Chevelle's interior by removing the carpeting and the seats. Remove the parts and components of your Ford's console and then the interior trim. Use a Chevrolet specific re-upholstery kit to restore the seats. Check the viability of all interior parts, finding replacements for all damaged ones. Remove your fenders. 7 Survey all removed components. Clean and restore each piece individually, replacing all damaged parts. Replace any metal components showing signs of erosion. Find replacement parts for your Chevelle through Chevrolet dealers or restoration merchants. 8 Examine the main body, the frame, hood, fenders, doors and floorboards of your Chevelle for dents, scratches, holes and rust. Repair the damage by performing patchwork with a MIG welder, soldering small pieces of metal to the damage. Ensure that the body is straight and smooth. If necessary, find replacement doors, fenders, hood and trunk lid. 9 Smooth the exterior of your Chevelle with a power sander. Align the car's panels and ensure that the exterior is smooth and even, then prime the exterior. Once the primer has dried, paint the exterior of the Chevelle. Step by Step : 10 Restore viable power components such as the engine, transmission, radiator, alternator, and carburetor. Evaluate the driveshaft, starter, and brake systems for viability, replacing components as necessary. Use a hoist to place the engine's components back into the Chevelle's engine well, then install them slowly to prevent damage. Step by Step : 11 Replace any damaged wiring on electrical components, installing all viable parts. Install the headlights and taillights, then the brake systems. Attach bumpers to the front and rear of the frame, then install the windshield. Install all mirrors and windows. Re-chrome any damaged trim along the exterior and attach new wheels to their assemblies. Remove the jack stands and lower the Chevelle to the ground. Step by Step : 12 Install the interior, starting with your re-upholstered seats. Install the interior components, including the the door panels, handles, electrical components, the console and controls. Ensure that all interior components are working properly, then test drive your Chevelle to finish this restoration project. *torsion bars, and air Air spring Torsion bar springs. Leaf springs are usually made up of several relatively thin metal plates, called leaves, piled one on top of the other. The reason for using these layers instead of one thick metal bar is that, as a bar bends, the top of the bar has to stretch a little. Unlike a single, thick bar, which, if bent too far, would split from the top down, leaf springs are more flexible — each leaf bends independently, and the leaves can slide on one another instead of breaking (see Figure 11-8). Each end of a set of leaf springs is attached to the frame at the rear of the car with fittings that allow the springs to bend and move freely. These fittings usually have rubber bushings that allow the fittings to bend and twist freely; they also absorb some of the vibration and pre vent it from reaching the passenger compartment. See Chapter 16 for details on leaf springs and how to care for them. 464

They're usually found at the front of the car, although they can be at both the front and the rear. Coil springs are typically used with strut-type suspensions, too. Figure 11-7 shows one type of coil spring; Figure 16-7 shows front and rear springs. You can find instructions for lubricating them in Chapter 16. At the front end, coil springs help cushion the bumps, vibrations, and steering movements. At the rear, they're suspended between control arms that have rubber bushings. v0 Torsion bars (refer to Figures 11-7 and 16-9) are used mainly in sport-utility vehicles and pre-1980 Chrysler products. They are located at the front of the vehicle, connected to the lower control arms. They twist to accommodate differences in the load that the car may be carrying, allowing the front wheels to move up and down freely. Think of torsion bars as coil springs that didn't get wound into a spiral. W Air springs are usually found on luxury vehicles. A rubber air spring can be filled with the right amount of compressed air to control the ride and maintain the proper height. With this type of system, a computer monitors the ride height and signals an onboard air compressor to pump more air into the air springs whenever weight is added to the vehicle. When the weight is removed, the computer turns on an exhaust solenoid to let air out of the air springs (refer to Figures 11-7 and 16-10). Usually, there's nothing to lubricate with air springs. But check with the dealer to find out whether it's okay to apply a rubber conditioner to the air bags to prevent them from wearing out prematurely. .Chapter 11: Steering and Suspension Systems Smooth the Way Shocks and struts Shock absorbers (see Figure 11-9) and MacPherson struts (see Figure 11-10) do most of the work of protecting the passenger compartment from bumps. One or the other is located near each wheel. The way they cut down on vertical movement is interesting. When a wheel hits a bump, it tends to keep bouncing up and down long after the bump has been left behind unless the movement is controlled. The bouncing effect is due to the inflated rubber tire on the wheel, and also to the fact that a coil spring that is either pulled or compressed doesn't just snap back into its former shape but keeps moving up and down for some time afterward. Shock absorbers and struts allow the springs to compress freely and to return or rebound slowly — like the door check on a storm door that opens quickly and easily but closes gently. Audi .
